What is Facebook Marketplace?
Facebook Marketplace is a digital marketplace where users can arrange to buy, sell and trade items with other people in their area. All transactions take place outside of the app, and are not considered in any legal sense to be Facebook’s responsibility. Facebook plays no role in facilitating or managing transactions – users are expected to work that part out between themselves.
Facebook Marketplace allows you to:
- Search for items to buy
- Browse for-sale items by category and/or location
- Create item listings. You can create the images for the item using a camera function within the app, or alternatively you can add photos from your device’s camera roll. Items are sorted according to location and category.
- View previous and current transactions and messages under a ‘Your Items’ section
- Set custom bids for items
- Message buyers/sellers to arrange transactions
Businesses can use Marketplace to:
- Show a lot of inventory for retail items, home rentals or USED vehicles for example
- Advertise your store or items on Marketplace to reach more people, even if your business doesn't post directly on the Marketplace (confusing, we'll explain more below).
- Display new or refurbished items from your Facebook Page shop on Marketplace for free and let customers purchase without leaving Facebook (limited to eligible merchants).
Post on/ Advertise In
Facebook Marketplace allows you place sponsored advertisement in the marketplace as well as/ instead of actually listing and selling your inventory inside the marketplace.
Advertising IN the Facebook Marketplace means your dealership's ads will actually appear on the side of the marketplace pages and search results with the label "sponsored" so shoppers can still be served with ads for your inventory and dealership, even when shopping broadly or in some cases, very specifically.
Advertising ON the Facebook Marketplace means your dealership's USED inventory will actually be listed in the marketplace and will appear in relevant search results for shoppers looking to purchase vehicles.
See here an example of used inventory listed for purchase:
What happens when a shopper clicks on a listed vehicle in the Marketplace?
When a shopper clicks on a vehicle from the menu view, the primary CTA on the page in the lower left hand corner is “Message Dealership” which triggers the dealership's Facebook messenger. Messages sent via this chat are routed through to the dealership page and it is up to the dealership, or a third party they may be using to manage their business page, to respond. There are, however, other CTAs on the page like “Dealership Website” (which takes the shopper to the Dealership website homepage) and “Vehicle Website” (which takes the shopper to the vehicle VDP on the dealership website).

The same AI will optimize your ads in this new Channel to get your Dealership more USED vehicle leads.
**Please note, you must have Acquire Social to activate this feature**

How can I activate the Marketplace feature in Acquire?
Ask your DXM to activate Marketplace on your account or just flip the button on inside Settings > Acquire > Facebook Marketplace > Enable .
**Please note, it will take up to 48 hours for your USED inventory catalog to be completely uploaded and have ads created and running. **
